Parish Social Ministries (PSM) include a number of ministries of outreach and support to members of the parish and to the broader community. The parish Director of PSM directs all aspects of these ministries with the help of coordinators assigned to each ministry.

The Gabriel Project is a ministry of presence and support to any mother in the community who is experiencing a crisis pregnancy. The women that the Gabriel Project works with are troubled, have questions and don't know what to do. Those involved in our ministry are the Angel Gabriel of today -- they give women in crisis pregnancies encouragement and hope, and let them know that the Lord is with them, providing support in a number of ways.

The St. John Vianney Sewing Ministry makes many items for the church and the parish community, including church banners, linens, baptismal garments, and prayer blankets. Anyone who can use scissors, sew a straight stitch, do laundry or tie a knot can get involved in this ministry. We could also use the help of someone who likes to look up scripture passages and write them down on a note card or paper stock. We even have some paper hands by the blankets in the Narthex for children to write a note of love and comfort. Coordinator: In Transition. For information, please contact Pat Macy, Parish Social Ministries Director at psm@sjvroundrock.org, or by phone at 218-1183.
The Homeless Ministry is under the parish social ministries and its purpose is to educate our parish on the extent of homelessness in our area and to reach out and help those in need. We do this by making Hope Bags (which are bags filled with toiletries and food items as well as a list of resources in the community) to give to the homeless people we see on the streets. Other plans include blanket and sock drives, visits to and volunteering at homeless shelters, and working with community agencies to see how best to assist them in their work with the homeless people in our area.
Coordinator: Linda Smith and her son Kyle. For information, please contact Linda, lsmith9@austin.rr.com, or by phone at 255-8705.
Hope Ministry is a ministry of support and compassion to victims of domestic violence. Project Hope promotes education and awareness about domestic violence. It also works directly with victims of domestic violence to provide support and to help them to determine options.

Legislative Advocacy Ministry: Legislative Advocacy is one aspect, along with direct service, community organizing and global solidarity of Parish Social Ministry here at SJV. Legislative Advocacy targets legislative bodies in our community, county, state and nation to look at policies in how it treats the poor and vulnerable in our society and encourages systematic changes to make life better for everyone. Parishioners who are interested in changing systems and working through the government as an advocate for the less fortunate are asked to contact the Parish Social Ministry Office at 218-1183 ext. 106.
